ShadowsocksX (macOS) — Install guide

Platform: macOS

Why ShadowsocksX

ShadowsocksX is the official Shadowsocks client for macOS, maintained by the shadowsocks organisation. It runs as a menu-bar app and supports the ss:// SIP002 URI format that Store4Gateway access keys use.

Step 1 — Get the app

Direct download (no GitHub required)

Download ShadowsocksX-2.6.3.dmg from our mirror on the install page, or directly from github.com/shadowsocks/shadowsocks-iOS/releases.

Open the DMG and drag ShadowsocksX to your Applications folder.

macOS may show a security warning on first launch. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.

Step 2 — Import your Store4Gateway access key

  1. Log in to store4gateway.com/dashboard.
  2. Click Copy URL — the ss:// link is now in your clipboard.
  3. Click the ShadowsocksX menu-bar icon → ServersImport from URL on Clipboard.
  4. The server entry is added automatically.

Step 3 — Connect

  1. Click the menu-bar icon → Servers → select the Store4Gateway entry.
  2. Click Turn Shadowsocks On.
  3. The menu-bar icon darkens when the proxy is active.

Step 4 — Verify

Open store4gateway.com/check in your browser.

You should see "✓ You're connected via our proxy".

Troubleshooting

"App is from an unidentified developer"

  • Right-click the app in Finder and choose Open to bypass Gatekeeper on first launch.

Only browser traffic is proxied

  • ShadowsocksX sets a system HTTP/SOCKS proxy. Apps that ignore the system proxy (some terminals, CLI tools) won't be routed. Use the Global Mode option to widen coverage.

Import fails

  • Confirm the clipboard contains a full ss:// URL by pasting into TextEdit first.
